Smoky eyes or smoky eye is a makeup technique that is booming in recent times. Since celebrities walk the red carpet with totally black eyes, the ‘humans’ have decided that they want to imitate that style and get a smoky style.
It is a technique that focuses all attention on the eyes, so it is recommended that the rest of the makeup is discreet and is not accompanied by a passion red on the lips. It should highlight the smoked so the rest of the makeup should be nude so that what most attract attention are our eyes.
The effect of smoky eyes is very simple to do, you will only have to take a black shadow and give free rein to the brush. To make it easier for you here we teach you how to create the effect of smoky eyes and the tricks so that it fits you perfectly and you are the queen of the track.
Instructions for creating the smoky eye effect
- Choose a place that has good light to be able to make up comfortably. It would also be very good if there was a small table nearby so that you leave the makeup there and have it at your fingertips.
- Open your makeup case and take out everything you’re going to need: the foundation, powders, mascara, blush, and, of course, the black shadow, a matte and the corresponding brushes. You will need more materials, but those are the main ones and the rest you will see the one that advances the tutorial.
- Now that you have all the material you can start putting on makeup. Obviously first make up your entire face before putting on your eyes, that is, put a foundation on your skin and some powders and once you have it done you can go with smoky eyes. The first thing you have to do is apply a beige shade all over the eyelid, this way the black will later settle better to the eye and take longer to leave. Use a bristle brush that does not end in a rounded finish, so you will better apply this first shade.
- Once you have made the base for the eye, take a black eyeliner and make the stripe on the upper eyelid, just at the limit of the eyelashes. The line is made both above the upper and lower tabs. Think that the effect you want to achieve is a very dark one, so the more part of the eye is in black, the better finished it will have.
- Take ear buds. They are very practical when it comes to removing makeup when we have made a mistake and also serve to blur those lines that we have made with the eye pencil.
- It’s time to move to the shade of black, so grab a flat brush of natural hair and your black eye shadow. Gradually take makeup and apply it to the upper eyelid. You must do it little by little and touches. Do it in layers so you don’t run the risk of leaving your eye as if you were a panda. So you will be looking for the shade of black that best suits your skin tone, because although it is a smoky effect, some people are great the very black tone but others need a slightly lighter one.
- Once you have the black base in your eye take a rounded brush to blur what you have painted. Do it with circular movements towards the eyelid and very slowly, to prevent our hand from going away and destroying what we have done (if it is little we can remove it with the swabs, but if we have messed it up enough we will have to start again). Blur until you see that a uniform tone has been created and keep in mind that the blurring should not reach the eyebrows, you will have to leave a strip between them and the eyelid, when you have done so you will have the effect of smoky eyes.
- To give it a little more color, grab a very fine brush and apply black shade below the lower eyelashes and right where you’ve outlined your eye below. Do not spend with the shade in this area, because if not your makeup will be excessive.
- To join the makeup that we have created with the rest of the face and that it does not remain as something isolated, to the area that we have left without makeup between the eyebrows and the mobile eyelid, we apply a shade of beige or white color. Do it with your fingertip and with small touches. With this we will also be able to increase the luminosity of the makeup and give more brightness to our eye.
- Take your mascara and apply it to the eyelashes, both upper and lower and do it in zigzag movements so that the volume of your eyelashes grows. If you have several mascaras apply the first to give color to them, wait a little for it to dry and then apply the second mask that will be to give it that volume we want to get. If you only have one mask you can apply it twice to give it more color.
- Take a swab and remove any excess makeup that you may have left when you finish your makeup. Ideally, after the eyelash shade do not make up anymore, but if you see that you want to improve some of your look with more color or a little more eyeliner, go ahead, although it is better to do it before mascara.
- With your smoky effect look done you only have to put on a little brown blush or a pale pink and give shine to your lips. Remember that we don’t want too much makeup. And enjoy your look.
Tips for creating the effect of smoky eyes
- Before you put on makeup, make sure you have all the necessary materials on the table and that you put yourself in a place with lots of light and a mirror so you can look good.
- Never apply all the eye shadow at once, because there will be a black eye without more and it will be a very ugly effect. Do it in layers, little by little, until you find the shade that best suits you. Think that a blonde and a brunette will not wear the same amount, the brunette can fit quite well but the blonde will look excessive because of the contrast with the hair. Do not let this happen to you and do it in layers.
- Always apply a beige shadow on the eyelid to remove excess fat from the skin so that the black remains for longer.
- Use the swabs to remove makeup debris. Never do it with toilet paper because it can be undone and it can stick to the eyelashes, something we do not want.
- It is advisable to apply two layers of mascara to the eyelashes to give them more volume and if you do not have use several times the one you have.
- Try to run away from cheap makeup from unknown brands. There are cheap makeup from well-known brands such as Mercadona or Kiko that are very good and do not spoil your skin, if you buy it in a whole to a hundred it can come out, in the long run, more expensive because it can cause reactions.
